[アニメ] デュラララ!!

DURARARA!!!
Genre: Fantasy, Superstition, Urban Legends, Heroes, Society, High-school, Anime

Episodes: 24

Summary: In Ikebukuro, rumors flit through the air and urban legends walk the streets.

Stelty Sturlson, the ‘Black Biker’ who is actually a Dullahan who has traveled all the way from Ireland in search of her head which was stolen 20 years ago; Dollars, the infamous color gang which is colorless; Saika, the sword that cuts people because it loves; Orihara Izaya, the informant with more ulterior motives than even his connections; Heiwajima Shizuo, who dislikes violence but cannot control his strength or anger and is known as the strongest man in Ikebukuro; Simon an African American who advertises and works for a Russian Sushi restaurant; Kishitani Shinra, an underground doctor; A girl with a suspiciously strange scar around her neck; Dotachin and his gang, which includes manga fanatics who provide commentary on everything amusingly and an idol maniac; and three high school students who seemingly have nothing to do with them : Sonahara Anri, Kida Masaomi and Ryuugamine Mikaido.

Their stories and lives intertwine, but it’s a significantly insignificant occurrence. Everyday, run of the mill, nothing uncommon: their extraordinary ordinary.

Review: This is possibly the first time, in any format, that I’ve seen any story with this many characters, done so well. All the characters are incredibly developed and fleshed out amazingly.

It displays, incredibly perfectly, how there is no such thing as a main character in actuality. Everyone has the starring role in their own personal lives, and they are awed by others whose lives they think are more important than theirs. While they are incredibly significant to those who are effected by their actions, they are incredibly insignificant to those who aren’t. Such is the way the world works.

The narration, the alternative perspectives, the different stories meshing into one, makes this incredibly gripping. There’s just the right blend of superstition and reality, making this one of my new favorites.

Honestly, this deserves so much more flailing over. However, I’ve been up to my usual pattern of procrastination and have been putting off writing the review for well over a week ago, so, ...I fail. Definitely recommended, though.
